How the formula works

Business days are the weekdays from the start date through the end date, including both dates when they fall on a weekday. Saturday and Sunday are skipped. Public holidays are not.

What the number means

Monday 5 January 2026 through Friday 16 January 2026 is 10 business days and 12 calendar days. The weekend in between is the difference. A public holiday that falls on a Thursday is still counted here. The working days calculator is the one that subtracts holidays you enter.

Questions

Does the end date count?

Yes, when it is a weekday. A Monday to Friday range is five business days, not four.

Why is my answer higher than the days the office was open?

Public holidays are still in this count. Subtract them with the working days calculator.

Can I use this for a notice period?

Only if the contract counts business days. The notice period calculator counts calendar weeks, which is the more common contract wording.
