How the formula works

Notice pay = annual salary ÷ 52 × notice in weeks.

What the number means

Four weeks of a £45,000 salary is £3,461.54. That is the gross pay for those weeks. Pay in lieu of notice, when a contract allows the employment to end immediately and the notice to be paid out, uses the same weeks of pay unless the contract defines a different sum. This page does not decide whether pay in lieu is owed.

Worked examples

Four weeks

£45,000 ÷ 52 = £865.38 a week. Four weeks × £865.38.

£3,461.54

Twelve weeks

£865.38 × 12.

£10,384.62

Questions

Is this statutory notice pay?

No. You enter the weeks. A statute that sets a minimum number of weeks from length of service is a separate lookup. This page prices the weeks you typed.

Should benefits be included?

Only if you fold them into the annual figure before you start. The calculator does not add pension, a car, or insurance on its own.

How do I find the last day as well as the pay?

Use the notice period calculator with the same number of weeks and the date notice was given.
