Divide revenue by headcount to get revenue per employee.
Divide revenue by headcount to get revenue per employee.
Revenue per employee = revenue ÷ employees.
£4,800,000 across 40 employees is £120,000 each. The number mixes every kind of employee you included. Adding contractors, or leaving out a whole department, changes it. It is not profit. A high figure can still lose money if the cost of delivering the revenue is higher. Use the same revenue definition and the same headcount each time you compare.
4,800,000 ÷ 40.
£120,000 per employee
4,800,000 ÷ 60.
£80,000 per employee
FTE is the fairer denominator when a lot of the team is part-time. Headcount matches how people usually quote the ratio. Use one of them consistently.
The revenue you are willing to defend: a year, a quarter annualised, recognised revenue rather than bookings. Write the period next to the result.
New people are in the denominator immediately. The revenue they bring, if they bring any, arrives later. A dip after hiring is the lag, not automatically a problem.
A planning figure for a conversation. It is not a payslip, a filing, or legal advice.
